4 Facts about Maryland State Inspections

• To register a vehicle in Maryland, you must receive an inspection certificate.
• Inspection certificates can only be awarded by licensed Maryland inspection stations.
• New residents of Maryland have 60 days to register their vehicles before automatically forfeiting any tax credit or titling tax paid in another state.
• Most sellers of used cars are required to have a vehicle undergo a safety inspection before the automobile can be sold.

When you buy a pre-owned vehicle, make sure you obtain the inspection certificate from the seller. In addition, be attentive to when your periodic emissions inspection is due. Remember, regular maintenance can prolong the life of your vehicle and prevent the need for an automotive repair during your state safety inspection.

Uber Inspections

Maryland Uber drivers must show proof they passed the safety inspection each year in order to continue accepting rides. When you pass your Uber vehicle inspection, you're required to upload the paper inspection certificate to Uber. Please note that emissions tests and window stickers are not accepted by Uber. You need to show inspection certification from the Maryland State Police.
